TuksSport Sports Performance Support Bursary
Terms and Conditions
1. General Application Conditions
1.1. Sports Performance Support bursaries is only available to students registered for full-time study at the University of Pretoria.
1.2. Applications must reach TuksSport no later than 31 July each year. No applications will be considered after this date.
1.3. Any incorrect and/or incomplete information will lead to the immediate cancellation of the application.
1.4. Each application will be acknowledged soon after receipt. If receipt of the application is not acknowledged within three (3) weeks after submission, it is the responsibility of the applicant to make enquiries with the relevant TuksSport club.
1.5. For sport-specific queries, applicants may contact the relevant TuksSport code manager at TuksSport Club Contact Directory.
1.6. The University of Pretoria Sports Performance Support bursaries will be awarded in one sporting code only per student, per annum.
2. Terms and Conditions of Award
The following terms and conditions shall apply to all successful applicants:
2.1. Successful applicants will be required to sign a written contract annually with the University of Pretoria, setting out the expectations of the University for the student-athlete.
2.2. Being awarded TuksSport Sports Performance Support does not entitle an individual to automatic bursaries in subsequent years. Annual re-application is required.
2.3. The re-awarding of Sports Performance Support will take into consideration the criteria listed below, as well as those stipulated in the agreement. This includes:
- academic performance;
- sporting performance;
- training attendance; and
- commitment to the programme as a whole.
2.4. The Sports Performance Support Bursary will be reviewed annually and according to performance. If a recipient does not perform adequately in either the academic or sporting environment, the bursaries may be:
- reduced;
- not renewed; or
- cancelled.
2.5. If a Sports Performance Support Bursary holder cancels their studies, the bursaries and support will be cancelled, and the full amount must be refunded to the University.
2.6. Sports Performance Support Bursaries are refundable to the University where a student fails to adhere to the contractual agreements as set out.
2.7. If the recipient does not pass their studies, no re-allocation will be considered, and any Sports Performance Support amounts paid will be refundable.
2.8. The application form must be signed by a legal guardian if the applicant is under the age of 18 years.
2.9. Verbal bursary offers will only be acknowledged if the offer is officially confirmed in writing by the relevant club. If not confirmed in writing, such offers will not be honoured and may not be claimed. It remains the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that such written confirmation is received.
3. Criteria for Awarding of Sports Performance Support Bursaries
Awards will be considered based on, but not limited to, the following criteria:
3.1. Prioritisation of bursaries per sporting code, in accordance with the relevant TuksSport club prioritisation.
3.2. Scarcity of athletes within the club for specific events or playing positions.
3.3. Potential performance at USSA (the South African Student Championships held annually), together with participation in Varsity Sport SA and Varsity Cup competitions within a specific sporting code.
3.4. Position on international rankings and ability to qualify for international competitions.
3.5. Position on sport-specific South African Senior rankings.
3.6. Position on sport-specific South African Junior rankings.
3.7. The University reserves the right to award or reject a Sports Performance Support application on the recommendation of the Club, with due regard to the above criteria and any other special circumstances.
